Ross Currie est né le 22 décembre 1921 à Winnipeg. Il s'engage dans la RCAF en novembre 1940 et débute son entrainement à l'ITS 2 de Regina avant de poursuivre à l'EFTS 6 de Prince Albert puis au SFTS 10 de Dauphin. Il est envoyé en Grande Bretagne en août 1941 et effectue sa transformation opérationnelle à l'OTU 60 le mois suivant. En novembre 1941, il rejoint le Squadron 151. Promu F/S en mars 1942, il est promu officier en mai puis F/O en novembre 1942. En avril 1943, il devient F/L et en juillet se trouve affecté au Squadron 410. Juste après cela, il est transféré à l'OTU 54 comme instructeur jusqu'en mars 1944. Il rentre alors au Canada pour une période de repos et rejoint le Squadron 410 à la mi-juin. Il termine son second tour d'opérations le 27 avril 1945 après avoir été placé à la tête d'un Flight à la fin de l'année 1944. Il retourne au Canada en juin 1945 et quitte la RCAF le mois suivant. Il totalise 85 sorties de guerre avec le Squadron 410 et 1480 heures de vol.

Since joining this unit, S/L Currie has consistently shown above average enthusiasm and keenness in his work. He was a Deputy Flight Commander from January 1943 to June 1943, when he went on rest. He rejoined this unit in June 1944 and in December 1944 he was appointed a Flight Commander, which appointment he held until his posting. He has completed two tours of operations, has destroyed two enemy aircraft at night, and has done many operational patrols, often in bad weather.
